About

About my paintings

My paintings refer to urban landscapes. I don’t seek to depict any particular place, but rather I construct imaginary architectures that have a kind of tangential relationship to both the cities of history and the cities we inhabit or are building now.

Constructing imaginary places rather than depicting real ones gives me the freedom to approach painting in a spirit of play and invention. Hopefully at least some of the enjoyment I get from making my paintings is shared by those who see them.

About me

I studied drawing and design for a year at the Alberta College of Art, and then transferred to the University of British Columbia where I eventually earned an MFA with a concentration in painting. That was a while ago. Since then I’ve moved away from the variant of 19th century realism I was practising at the time to the mid-20th century modernist vernacular that seems to represent my mature style.

I am currently based in Victoria, British Columbia.

About my blog
